“Blow me up”

Gonzalo García (Bogotá 1981) is presenting his most recent proposal at the Project Gallery. “Blow me up” is a series in which the artist is initially interested in images downloaded from the Internet and photographs taken by himself, using as his starting point the infinity of plastic possibilities found in the act of chewing gum and blowing bubbles.

These works, painted in watercolor on synthetic paper, evidence the artist’s interest in meticulous details, surfaces and in the picture plane created by the action of blowing the bubble and its subsequent bursting.

It is clear that the artist is seduced by the sensuality and carnality of the images, and that their visual and anatomical component takes center stage to produce works that end up being ambiguous without having an overt sexual content: burst me, seduce me.

Gonzalo García majored in plastic arts in Universidad de los Andes, and later completed a realistic portrait workshop at the South Carolina Blair School of Arts in the United States.

His works have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in Bogotá and were awarded the Second Prize at the Uniandinos exhibition and the First Prize of Young Art at the Club el Nogal exhibition.

He currently lives and works in Bogotá.
